Spring Goals

With Easter and Holy Week almost here let us not get too wrapped up in the busyness of it all and remember to celebrate the Resurrection. 2009 Rocky Mountain Regional Conference

“This conference rocks!” That is one of many compliments that I heard about our 2009 Rocky Mountain Regional Conference. Twelve people were able to attend this year’s conference in Grand Island, Nebraska. Everything was wonderful, the food, the presenters, all of the small details that were taken into care and consideration. It was all wonderful and many thanks goes to Rebecca Plambeck and Britteny Beckstrom for organizing and planning the conference. We had so much fun and learned so much. We also were able to introduce our region to our first time attendees: Rose Miller, Johnnie Means, and Zep Sylvis (Pacific Region). In addition to the classes we also recognized Judy Dill (Level I), Sue Nedderman ( Level II), Angie Palmer ( Level III), Suzie Payne (Level III), and Rebecca Plambeck ( Level I) on receiving their certification. We did complete some business at this conference and came up with new policies and a budget for 2010. (The details from this meeting will come out soon with a copy of the minutes from the meeting.) We also elected Rebecca Plambeck as our new secretary for our region. It was also decided that Alayne Stevens, Judy Dill and Bobbie Hoffman will be making plans for our 2010 conference.

Overall, this conference was such a wonderful time and I’m not talking just about the classes, food, and all of the freebies that we received this last weekend. The best part was the fellowship. We as a region are truly blessed to have such a great group in our region…and on that note I am excited to see all of you back at next year’s conference and those that couldn’t make it this year…well I’m anxious to see you in 2010.

Business Meeting

Today was the annual business meeting of the Administrative Personnel Association. Here are some of the highlights....
1. Changes in the bylaws that were strictly grammatical with no changes in content
2. Election of Officers....National Secretary, Jan Tyson and National Treasurer, Carol Ferrantelli
3. Presentation of gifts to new attendees
The meeting is to be held over to Saturday evening for presentation of certifications and installation of officers.

Welcome to Florida!
Tonight at just after six pm (class just happened to be on break) many people packed the 19th floor stairwell to witness the space shuttle launch. The weather was very cloudy and we were not sure that the shuttle would launch after several previous scrubs because of weather, but sure enough there was success. Wish you could have all been here to see it.

Hi All!!!
Just wanted to leave a quick note (mostly because I am so excited that I finally got "accepted" to blog! (The internet...it's great and it terrible all at once!) Anyway...I just wanted to take a moment to thank all that made our regional conference wonderful!! Diana, Barbara, Lisa, Carol, Elaine, and I bet I missed someone, but you are all blessing and made these events go smoothly. And could Zephyr Point it be any more beautiful? It was such a great get away to recharge, renew and learn all at the same time! We were a small group, but I hope in the future we can have more of our regional "folk" attend. I know in these dire economic times, we (and our church) are feeling the pinch of all the "extras". But I have hope that more churches and presbytery offices will consider this valuable for their staff. It's certainly gives me a new look on my job and myself and I always strive to find ways to implement what I have learned. Anyway...I will get down off my soap box (or office chair :) and send out my encouragement and prayers to all.

Record Management in the Information Age

I just finished teaching a class for the National APA conference entitled, “Record Management in the Information Age”. The class was great! It potentially is a very dry subject, and I admit to being a bit nervous that the audience would be barely engaged and that perhaps half of them would be asleep before the first break. I was pleasantly surprised! What a great group of people!

We had a lot of fun interacting. They let me talk about the things I love and am passionate about (blogging, redundancy, automatic backups, driving the bus) and in turn they interacted a lot. There were so many positive comments and questions from the group, it certainly made teaching the class a lot of fun.

I thought it was interesting that during the break people were mostly fascinated with the staff terminations that we have done over the past couple of years, and most of those talking to me asked if I would “visit” their staff and make the “appropriate adjustments”. Heheh…nice try. You have to do your own dirty work I’m afraid.

It was encouraging to see this group striving to a higher level of education. I was encouraged because ultimately, the better they are at their job will result in fewer barriers between those that do not know Christ and the gospel message that they so desperately need to hear.

I had a great time in Sacramento, I hope that I will be invited to speak to the group in the future.

APA Rivercats Outting

Friday night 30 of us went to see the Rivercats baseball game (Minor league - Triple A of the Oakland A's). After a wonderful bbq dinner and a free hat after entering the game we watched a rather relaxed game. Two major league players were doing a rehab assignment. It was also dog night so people brought their pets and there was a pet costume contest. A good time was had by all. On the walk back we had a beautiful view of the California State Capital building. We miss everyone being here and hope that you can all go to Denver next year.

As we travel from all areas of this great country to the beautiful state of California. We all arrive tired but invigorated for this coming together.

As I sit here in the lobby I am watching as the registration table opens and banners are hung and friends and future friends register for this conference.
